After a mostly sleepless night in a Tokyo hotel, I decided that perhaps staying in the Temple in the same room as my lovely parents for four days might not be the best idea we ever had.
3am hostel.com booking later and I was booked into K’s House hostel in Kyoto.
We caught the Bullet train up from Tokyo and I had my first chance to test out my new camera and its 14x zoom of awesome. Ahh.. im such a nerd sometimes.
One of the first sights you see as you step off the train in Kyoto is Astro boy! I had a double take when I first saw it, but no, its just part of the Japanese cutesy charm.
The air of efficiency and politeness around the Japanese is fantastic, and was perfectly demonstrated when I saw a whole bunch of paramedics rushing to the aid of a man who had collapsed in the toilets of Kyoto station.
They were certainly in a hurry and they brought him out within moments, I was duly impressed, I hope the guy was ok.
After dumping my bagts I did some walking round the central area of Kyoto, checking out the vibe and shops before settled back into the excellent to amazing hostel!
Everyone is really friendly and then another Aussie guy from Adelaide came into the room and we went for some dinner, followed by a few too many beers with a group of Mexicans at the Zen bar.
So much fun so far. Now to find a barber and get a haircut…
